Government extends validity period of non-levy quota released for the month of October
The Central Government, while releasing 17.14 lakh tonne of sugar for November, extended the validity period of non-levy quota released for the month of October, 2009 by allowing 10 days more time for both fortnights ending on 15th and 31st October, 2009, i.e. by 25th October, and 10th November, 2009.
Further, the Government has extended the validity period of unsold quantities of white sugar processed from imported raw sugar, released in the months of August and September, 2009, which was required to be sold within October, 2009 also by ten days i.e. upto 10th November, 2009.
The Central Government vide notification dated 22.08.2009 has put restriction on large consumers of sugar to keep stocks of sugar and the notification has already come into effect on 19th September, 2009. Non-Household sector consumers which include large consumers, consume over 60% of non-levy sugar. As such, the availability of sugar for household sector during the month of November, 2009 is expected to be adequate.
