Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation to receive draft guidelines of Rajiv Awas Yojna on 15th November, 2009

Kumari Selja, union minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, while addressing the Consultative Committee Meeting informed said that there is a large unmet need for housing in the country, especially for middle and low income groups. She said, Ministries under her have taken several initiatives for accelerated addition to the housing stock and for creation of livelihoods for the urban poor and unemployed and also for sustainable development of habitat. Referring to the proposed Rajiv Awas Yojna, the Minister said considerable exercise is going on in the Ministry of HUPA for launching the scheme aimed at Slum Free India based on ‘whole city approach’.
The in-principle approval of Planning Commission for the Scheme has been obtained. She said process for approval of EFC/Cabinet will start soon once comments from State Governments/Central Ministries will reach the Ministry. The date for receiving comments on the draft guidelines of Rajiv Awas Yojna is 15th November, 2009. She also apprised the Members of the Committee of National Policy on Street Vendors, 2009, the Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme and Affordable Housing in Partnership Scheme
